Our organization name is a bit complicated: Indonesia International Work Camp of Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia (IIWC of PKBI) but from now on you can call us just IIWC :)
Since 1999 we organized more than 30 international and bilateral work camps per year in Indonesia and many other international voluntary services with hundreds of either local or international volunteers involved. We are part of the NVDA (Network for Voluntary Development in Asia) and as International Volunteer Service pioneers in Indonesia, we are nowadays expanding our impact toward our society with the tagline “Empowering Communities”.
We invite you to get involved in the Mangkang Enviromental Project in Semarang to preserve the coastal side of North Java Sea by participating in Cleaning the Environment and Planting Mangrove Campaigns.
This area is now in danger due to the abrasion of the sea, the cutting of mangrove by local factories and the heavy force from the river flows. There used to be a lot of fish and shrimp ecosystem but since the condition of the mangrove forest is getting worse it is quite difficult to find them anymore and the Fishermen need to go further to the ocean to fish which also has a negative environmental impact.
Garbage problem was also re-raised in the recent years due to the lack of local awareness about environmental friendly lifestyle. There is not an integrated garbage management system in this area, neither daily truck garbage picker in this area. Local communities started to make recycle activities to decrease the impact in the nature.
