We are a small Foundation that supports education and the arts as tools to combat poverty in the community of Ararca (Barú Island) near Cartagena de Indias (Colombia).
Working with volunteers and local and foreign donors, we build the conditions for children and young people that allow them to access new resources, cultivate their skills and let their imagination run wild.
In 2013 we inaugurated, in a school room, the first and only Playroom Library in the village of Ararca (Barú Island) where 300 children and young people from the school find a welcoming and stimulating environment to carry out their school work, practice reading and have fun learning, under the guidance of Dionisia, our happy and loving librarian-educator.
It is a luminous space full of informative books, stories and novels, educational games, didactic material, play dough, puzzles, arming games, memory, implements to draw and paint, a keyboard and other musical instruments, etc. They do not have any of that in their homes.
With Dionisia students cultivate good habits such as washing their hands before entering the library, calmly concentrating each one on their own and speaking softly when they want to share, leaving their backpack in the entrance without fear of being robbed, and keep in their place the books or games they use before taking another, etc. The children themselves remind each other of this and teach it to the new ones
